I've looked at The Bible in 90 Days several times, trying to decide if this was a challenge I wanted to begin. Today I read Mom's Toolbox's plan to start reading this on January 1 and blog about her journey through the Bible. I prayed about it and decided to go for it. I've read a lot of Psalms in the last few years, I've read the Gospels and the Epistles several times, but I think it's time to get the big picture of the whole Bible again.

To see the schedule (and save it as a printable bookmark) go here and click "bookmark" on the right hand side under "PDF Files."

I ordered the book and the participant guide from Amazon yesterday, paid about $5 in shipping, and received them today! (I think Amazon has a warehouse in my town.)

This truly sounds like a challenge, Ruth, and a mighty one that God will walk with you ... or maybe I should say run with you! I will hold you in prayer as you set this goal before yourself. God's Word is powerful. He will do His work within you on this journey.

Thanks Linda! As the year ends I'm reading through the Epistles to get a little preview of what my reading routine will be when I read through the Bible in 90 Days. Today I read Romans 15-I Corinthians 14. As I read I looked for reasons to praise God.

O Savior Jesus Christ,
Power and Wisdom of God,
I praise and thank You
for clothing me with Yourself
and Your armor of light.
You have made me a temple for Your Spirit
filling me with Your power
and Your overflowing hope.
Thank You that Your kingdom is not
a collection of inspiring words
but a powerful force.
Empower me today, Lord,
to follow Your way of love and peace.

(I Cor. 1:24, Rom. 13:14, Rom. 13:12, I Cor. 3:16, Rom. 15:13, I Cor. 4:20, I Cor. 14:1, Rom. 14:19)

May we each recognize the force with which God brings His kingdom to this earth. The Bible is so truly more than "a collection of inspiring words". As we read, may we know the Holy Spirit's teachings, God's breath upon us deepening our walk with Him.

Today's prayer:

Lord Almighty
I dare to call You Father
because Your light shines in my heart,
Your grace abounds,
and Your comfort overflows.
Thank You
Great and Mighty God
for victory
for hope
for glory and transformation
and for love.

Ruth, I also have the Bible in 90 days. I'm excited to hear about your journey. I'm trying to think of the name of a great man or woman of God (can't remember right now) who read the Bible many times a year EVERY year. Now that's a message for all of us! I'll be doing this sometime soon myself. Just think - at the end of March you will have read the entire Bible. Yay - no time in God's Word is ever wasted. The Lord will use it for His glory. Blessings, Catherine

Thanks Catherine! I don't usuallly like to follow a rigid schedule in my Bible reading--I like to be free to follow the Lord's leading if I suddenly feel led to read Phillippians--but this is good for me too. smile.gif

My prayer today, after reading Genesis 28:20-40:11 When I was little I went to Sunday School
and I heard Bible stories at home
and I learned about those great heroes in Genesis:
Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and Jacob's 12 sons.
Eventually I read Genesis for myself
and I was shocked to find it was more like a soap opera
than a heroic history.
Yet You loved these flawed people, Lord!
You talked with them and guided them and cared for them.
This encourages me today
when I don't feel heroic.

I'll be getting up a little earlier now, to read not just The Bible in 90 Days, but A Heart that Hopes in God. I'm leading a group of 15 women through this study. smile.gif

Oh, Ruth, what a blessing for the 15 women and for you, too. I will be praying for you as you prepare and lead and share.

I'm excited that you are doing A Heart That Hopes In God!! I'd love to hear what others are learning. I'm like you Ruth - I have my Bible reading plan but I also like to be in a study with others so it does mean getting up a bit earlier in the morning. The Lord's been waking me up early for years now and I love the early morning time with Him! Have a wonderful day today!!

One thing I have asked of the Lord and that I shall seek;
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord and to meditate in His temple.

I am glad to be able to get up early again. It was a habit for a long time, but then there came a season when I could not wake up early. I slept through my alarm every day. I even bought a new alarm, but it didn't work. Finally I had to surrender and thank God for the extra sleep and trust Him to give me a chance to read at a different time of day. That season seems to be past now, and I am glad to be back to early morning devotional times.

Back pain interrupted my week but I've kept up with my Bible in 90 Days readings, and I'm now reading Deuteronomy. The readings this last week haven't been the sections of the Bible in which I find the most encouragement for my daily life. But over and over again I saw a Holy God making it possible for humans to have a relationship with Him. I also saw God's people experiencing great victories and then complaining when they run into more difficulties. I asked God to give me a long memory when it comes to His blessings! And I praised God for this age of grace.

Oh, Amen, Ruth! To remember the blessings, the moments with the LORD, the quiet whispers in my ear, the precious joy I experienced.
I pray I would have that long lasting memory too, that closeness in my walk with the LORD to be connected with Him at each bend in the road.

May your evening and tomorrow be a blessing. ~ linda
